In short
The last piece of print that still closes business.
Nearly every printed format has been replaced by something digital. The product catalogue has not.
In manufacturing, wholesale, construction supply, furniture and industrial equipment, the catalogue is still the document that sits on a buyerโs desk while a decision is made. It has to be accurate, navigable, and confident enough to justify a price. Most are none of those things.
The challenge
Why most catalogues underperform.
The typical catalogue is not badly designed so much as badly built. It was assembled page by page under deadline, and every update since has made it worse.
The costs of that show up somewhere else entirely.
- Buyers cannot find a product without asking someone, so your sales team becomes a search function.
- Every new edition is rebuilt from scratch because there is no template underneath.
- Product data lives in a spreadsheet and is retyped into the layout, introducing errors.
- Photography is inconsistent โ different backgrounds, angles and lighting on facing pages.
- A German or French edition means redoing the whole layout because it was never designed to reflow.
- The printer returns queries about bleed, resolution or colour, and the launch date slips.
Our approach
We build the catalogue as a system, then fill it.
A catalogue should be a structure โ a grid, a hierarchy, a set of page types โ that product content flows into. Built that way, the second edition costs a fraction of the first.
We design that structure around how your buyer actually searches, then handle the production reality: data flow, image standards, prepress and press-ready output.
- Information architecture โ category logic, navigation, indexing and cross-referencing tested against real buyer questions.
- Page-type system โ hero pages, dense product grids, technical spreads, comparison tables, application photography.
- Master templates with paragraph and object styles, so updates take hours rather than weeks.
- Data-driven production where a product spreadsheet or PIM export can populate the layout directly.
- Multilingual setup โ layouts and styles built to absorb German and French text expansion without redesign.
- Prepress and delivery โ press-ready PDF/X, correct bleed and colour profile, plus a tagged interactive PDF for digital use.

Why Ross Digital Media
What a catalogue built here gives you.
01
The second edition is cheap
Because the first one was built as a template with styles, data links and page types. Most studios sell you the first edition twice.
02
Print standards for every market
DIN A4 for Germany, US Letter for North America, correct ICC profiles for coated and uncoated stock, and paper weight guidance that matches how the catalogue is used. Files arrive at the printer ready.
03
Photography handled in-house
We shoot product and application photography ourselves, to a written specification, so the imagery in the catalogue is consistent from the first page to the last.
04
Designed for how buyers read
Technical buyers scan for specifications; retail buyers respond to context. We design the hierarchy around whichever one is paying, rather than around what looks good in a portfolio.
Next step
Send us your current catalogue.
We will review the structure, the production setup and the print specification, and come back with a written assessment of what a rebuild would change โ and what the next three editions would cost you either way.
